This policy explains the cookies and similar technologies used on this website, and how you can control them. It lists only what this site actually uses.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that a website saves in your browser. Similar technologies, such as local storage, do the same job. Some are essential for a site to work; others are optional and only used if you agree.

How we use them

Essential

These make the site work and cannot be switched off. They remember your cookie choices, your language and whether you prefer light or dark display; keep forms secure; and let donations be processed. They do not track you across other sites.

Videos and embedded media (optional)

Interviews on this site are hosted on YouTube. We show a still image first and load nothing from YouTube until you press play and allow it, either for one video or for all videos. We use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), but once a video loads YouTube may still set cookies or use local storage and receive your IP address. YouTube’s own privacy policy applies to that.

Analytics and marketing (optional)

We only use analytics or marketing tools if they are listed in the table below. If we add one, we will update this policy, raise the policy version and ask for your consent again before it runs.

Your choices

When you first visit, a banner lets you accept all, reject non-essential or customise your choices. Rejecting is as easy as accepting, and the site works either way.

You can change your mind at any time:

The same “Cookie settings” link is at the bottom of every page. When you withdraw consent we stop loading the optional tools and remove the cookies we can.

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block essential cookies, parts of the site (such as language choice or donations) may not work.

Your consent record

We store your choices, the date and the version of this policy in a cookie in your browser. If the anonymous consent log is switched on, we also record the same choice against a random number that does not identify you (no name, email or IP address), so we can show that consent was given. Those records are deleted automatically.

Cookies on this site

We use essential cookies to make the site work. With your permission we would also play videos from YouTube. Nothing optional runs until you choose. Read the Cookie Policy

  • Essential

Needed for the site to work: remembering your cookie choices, your language and your light or dark display, keeping forms secure, and processing donations. These cannot be switched off.

  • Videos and embedded media

Lets interviews play inside this site using YouTube (youtube-nocookie.com). YouTube may set cookies and receive your IP address when a video loads.
